Grays Harbor County's county seat is at Montesano, and its largest city is Aberdeen. The county is named after Grays Harbor, a large estuarine bay near its southwestern corner. This bay, in turn, is named after Captain Robert Gray.
Grays Harbor County is nestled between the Pacific Ocean, the Southern part of the Olympic Peninsula, Quinault Rain Forest, and rural eastern Grays Harbor County. In no other county can you stick your toe in the Pacific Ocean one hour, and the next hour be in the lush rain forest.
Grays Harbor is home to 7 bodies of water; harbors, lakes, streams, channels, canals, rivers and of course, the Pacific Ocean. Hike the forests to witness wildlife in its natural habitat. Or experience the Quinault Rain Forest, one of only two temperate rain forests in the Northern Hemisphere. Camp, kayak, walk, hike, you name it, Grays Harbor is untouched and waiting for you to explore.
There are over 50 miles of pristine beaches to walk, beach comb or just get cozy in your room or at your campsite and watch and hear the majestic waves lapping the beaches.
